Ofek is primarily geared to students, in grades 9 to 12 inclusive, of Ethiopian origin.  Ofek is funded by the Ministry of Absorption, the Elie Wiesel Foundation, and the Kiryat Gat municipality.  Some 180 students join the program annually.    

Ofek seeks to bring pupils to matriculation status, completing at a level that will enable them entry into academic institutions, and later integrate into key positions in Israeli society.  Study is conducted in small groups.  Individualized study plans are structured for each student based on her or his personal levels. The program is fully supported by the schools' professional staff. 

Beyond the program's educational activities, Ofek also provides weekly social activities geared at personal empowerment.  Topics cover leadership, academic motivation, life skills and more.   The professional team carries out ongoing evaluation of each child's success relative to her or his personally structured progress plan.  With Ofek's 70% success rate, Kiryat Gat's matriculation achievements have increased remarkably.
